Revitalising Newcastle

Helping Newcastle adapt to the needs of the future is no small task. It’s a community effort.

School of Architecture and Built Environment students helped the community bring their vision of Newcastle to life in collaboration with Urban Growth NSW.

As part of the Revitalising Newcastle project, students met with members of the public and sketched what they would like to see in Newcastle in the future. Suggestions included a museum that captured and exhibited local art and showcased the city’s cultural history. Students who took part found the experience empowered the community as they were being given the chance to have their say.

Urban Growth NSW will use these sketches to formulate their recommendations for what is proposed for Newcastle’s development.

This innovative approach is part of an ongoing collaboration between the Revitalising Newcastle project and the University of Newcastle. The opening of NeW Space on Hunter Street is expected to play a major role in revitalising the CBD and breathing new life into the CBD.
